We were assigned a task of the design and manufacture bespoke reception desk signage for The Sail Makers Hotel in London. The hotel sought a high-end, elegant piece to serve as a focal point at the reception area, requiring top-tier craftsmanship and a luxurious antique brass finish. Our role was to deliver a visually striking and durable sign using precision CNC machining and a carefully applied antique brass patina.
The hotel requested signage made from solid brass, with intricate detailing that would reflect their sophisticated brand identity. The signage needed to exude a sense of timeless elegance, with a rich antique brass finish that complemented the hotel’s upscale interior design. It had to balance aesthetics with durability, as it would be positioned in a high-traffic area at the reception desk.
The primary challenge was creating intricate, precise detailing while ensuring the signage’s durability. Achieving the perfect antique brass patina was also critical to delivering the desired aesthetic.
Our process began by collaborating with the hotel’s design team to develop a detailed concept for the signage. After finalizing the design, we employed precision CNC machining to cut and shape the solid brass. This allowed us to achieve the sharp, clean detailing needed for the lettering and decorative elements with high accuracy.
Once the machining was complete, the signage underwent a multi-step finishing process to achieve the antique brass look. The brass was treated with a specialized patina process to create the desired aged effect, giving it a rich, luxurious tone. Finally, a protective coating was applied to ensure the sign’s durability and longevity, particularly in a busy reception area.
